Software Architect | High-Tech Systems (m/d/w)

Full-time
Bachelor, Master
Erlangen

As a Software Architect | High-Tech Systems you shape and develop state-of-the-art software for challenging high-tech products and machines.

In this role, you turn customer and system needs into a coherent, buildable, and testable software architecture for complex technical products. You connect system, hardware, software, quality, and customer perspectives. You make trade-offs explicit, provide engineers with clear technical direction, and maintain your technical credibility through design work and problem-solving skills as well as being hands-on in the code with the team. You support our customers in the semiconductor, analytical, medical equipment industry, within the “Medical Valley”, the DACH region and beyond.

What excites you as a Software Architect

From our office in Erlangen and occasionally at customer sites, you will shape the software architecture of complex technical products:

  • Architect complete systems, not just individual components. Define system boundaries, actors, use cases, and functional and non-functional requirements (safety, security, reliability, performance, maintainability, scalability, and testability).
  • Translate architecture into a workable backlog, clear implementation guidance. Create fit-for-purpose architecture views and models, define interfaces and system as well as component design, and record decisions, rationales, assumptions, and consequences.
  • Serve as technical lead and guide engineers through design reviews, architectural discussions, and key implementation decisions.
  • Create and communicate sound object-oriented designs. Explain abstractions, relationships, and architectural patterns, and use prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and technical experiments to reduce uncertainty and risk.
  • Stay hands-on enough in the code to architect and discuss technologies and products with credibility. You are comfortable working with C/C++ and/or C#/.NET/Python and understand key concepts for hardware-near development such as real-time systems, state machines, concurrency, and resource management.
  • Facilitate architectural trade-offs, resolve technical disagreements, align customers and suppliers, and take ownership of the technical direction.
  • Communicate technical decisions effectively to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Sounds good so far? We'd love to tell you more…

Jouw toekomstige werkplek

This is what you bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • You have gained more than 10 years of experience with technical software development across different roles, product environments, and projects.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C/C++ and C#/.NET/Python for different operating systems
  • You have extensive experience with various modern development methods, tools, and technologies (OOAD, Agile, TDD, MDSD, etc.) and use these to set up appropriate development processes.
  • Experience with HIL/SIL, simulation, test automation and CI/CD is a strong differentiator.
  • Experience with industrial, medical, semiconductor, automation, robotics or comparable complex systems is valuable. You quickly gain expertise in unfamiliar products and are able to reason from first principles when solving technical challenges. You use generative-AI tools in your daily work, or you are eager to learn how to use them responsibly and effectively.
  • You communicate confidently in English and can work effectively in a German-speaking environment. German-language proficiency is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 10% worldwide

This is what you can expect in return from Sioux

  • A 40-hour working week with a hybrid working model: you will work mainly from our Erlangen office and occasionally at customer sites, with one work from home day per week guaranteed and additional flexibility where it fits the project and team.
  • A healthy work-life balance is very important to us. We offer 30 days of vacation per calendar year.
  • You will work with passionate colleagues who share your drive for technology and business success.
  • By combining our expertise in software, electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, mathematics and assembly, we make the impossible possible for our customers and get to work on challenging high-tech projects.
  • You get a lot of freedom and responsibility; after all, you know exactly what you are doing.
  • Personal coaching and training, so that you can continue to develop yourself.
  • We also believe it is important to have fun together. We organize events for our employees, from summer parties for the whole family and lively Christmas celebrations to inspiring knowledge events for the high-tech community.
  • Our office in Sioux is ideally located in the heart of the “Medical Valley” in the university town of Erlangen.
  • You can share your knowledge with colleagues over lunch, and there are always like-minded people around for a round of darts or table soccer to lighten the mood. Sports are also a big deal at STG - join our running group or our beach volleyball team.

High-Tech & High-Fun

We can tell you all about the typical Sioux culture and the high-tech challenging projects. About how you can develop yourself, like nowhere else. But we’d rather have you hear it from our own employees.
